As Southwest Washington's representative in Congress, I want to keep you up-to-date on my work to improve life in our region. If you have any questions or ideas to share with me, I welcome you to send me a direct message here.
Southwest Washington is all too familiar with the threat of wildfires. One critical strategy for reducing the scope and damage they can cause is to more actively manage our forests to make these areas more fire-resilient, starting with removing abundant brush and decaying and dead trees that act as overgrown kindling. In addition to saving lives and homes, we can preserve cleaner air and water in addition to our beautiful forest resources that mean so much to our region.
I’m helping introduce the bipartisan Resilient Federal Forests Act in Congress to help keep our communities safe from the ravages of wildfire, and to protect our precious forests and species throughout the Pacific Northwest. Click here to read more about this bill.
Strengthening the Columbia River's ability to ship goods, support Southwest Washington's economy
The Columbia River supports countless jobs and is the lifeblood of our Southwest Washington economy, which is why it's important we work to increase the efficiency of shipping goods up and down that waterway.
I was pleased to help secure critical funding in Congress that will aid in the construction of a turning basin near Kalama, and the improvement of a turning basin in Longview. These turning basins will help increase cargo volume capacity of vessels and in-turn, spur economic development in our region. Click here to read more.
Protecting Cowlitz County from potential flooding
Cowlitz County communities know the great risk that flooding poses to their families, homes, and businesses. The federal government has a responsibility to help mitigate the risk of flooding caused by the buildup of sediment from the eruption of Mount St. Helens in the Lower Cowlitz River, and I’m making sure it lives up to that commitment.
I was pleased to have secured the critical funds in Congress to conduct sediment monitoring that is needed to protect our vulnerable communities. Click here to read more.
