There's been a growing concern among residents that the I-5 bridge replacement process could repeat the mistakes of the failed Columbia River Crossing (CRC) effort.
I'm listening. I want project leaders to hear them, too. Earlier this week, I asked I-5 project leaders to take more time to include commuter voices. I've also called for the creation of "commuter representative" positions to ensure the project meets the needs of the people who will actually use the bridge on a regular basis – Southwest Washington commuters.
I'm grateful to Washington's transportation department for granting my request to extend the deadline for individuals to apply to its Commuter Advisory Group until December 27. I've included instructions for citizens to submit their application, below.
Project leaders also expressed interest in creating another working group to focus on the needs of commuters. I promise to keep you updated on the progress of that effort.
