U.S. Congresswoman Herrera Beutler
Top VA congressional leader listens to Southwest Washington veterans

It was an honor to welcome House Committee on Veteran's Affairs ranking member, Dr. Phil Roe to meet with Southwest Washington veterans in Chehalis recently. Congressional leaders need to hear directly from veterans about the issues they're facing including trouble with the VA, problems securing benefits, access to mental health services, and more.

But please know: my office has helped hundreds of veterans who are struggling with issues with the VA, or who haven't secured the benefits they deserve - and we stand ready to assist you. If you need help, please contact my office at (360) 695-6292 or go online to my website, here.

The highest ranking Republican on the Veteran Affairs Committee, Dr. Roe, joins me to hear from veterans in Chehalis.
Creating new jobs and spurring economic growth in Longview

Great news for the city of Longview! I was pleased to help champion the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act through Congress to create Opportunity Zones like the one being implemented in Longview. It's estimated 200 family-wage jobs and $111 million in private investments will result from the Beech Street extension project. READ MORE HERE

Longview Criminal Justice Response Grant

I am also pleased to announce Longview Police received a $500,000 Improving Criminal Justice Response grant.

This grant will go towards hiring of an additional police detective focused exclusively on domestic violence investigations, and a contract with Emergency Support Shelter for a part-time Victim Advocate. There is also funding for training for the entire Longview Police Department, the Emergency Support Shelter and the city Attorney's office in best practices on domestic violence cases.

 Combating the opioid crisis
in Cowlitz County

I had the opportunity to hear some powerful testimonies at PeaceHealth in Longview recently on the scourge of opioid addiction in Cowlitz County.

Hearing directly from the folks who are on the front lines helps me know how to fight for resources and funding in Congress. I want to thank everyone who attended, and to PeaceHealth for having me - the work they are doing to help vulnerable folks in Cowlitz County in invaluable.

Mr. Daniel Jensen of Camas reached out to our office to ask for help with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Mr. Jensen's wife, Angelica, had been waiting well over the normal processing time to receive an interview date at the U.S. Embassy in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

After several attempts to get this interview scheduled, we were finally able to secure an interview date on October 3rd, 2019. Angelica’s Green Card was approved that very same day.
