U.S. House Approves Funding for Longview’s Columbia Heights Road Improvement

Yearly Appropriations spending plan includes Southwest Washington community funding priority secured by Herrera Beutler

The U.S. House of Representatives this week approved a yearly spending plan which included a Southwest Washington community funding priority Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler secured through her position on the House Appropriations Committee to fund the Columbia Heights Road Reconstruction Project in Longview.

“I’m pleased the U.S. House advanced this week several important priorities for Southwest Washington, including funding for the Columbia Heights Road Reconstruction Project in Longview which will increase safety for pedestrians, school buses, and all residents who utilize the road,” Herrera Beutler said. “While the overall spending levels in the final bill were too high for me to end up supporting the package in its current form, I’m going to continue working with congressional negotiators to ensure this project remains in the final bill to help complete this vital infrastructure upgrade.”

Project funding details:

Columbia Heights Road Reconstruction Project - $5,500,000

  • The funding is designated for improving an approximate one-mile section of Columbia Heights Road between Cascade Drive and Fishers Lane. The current roadway is narrow, has no pedestrian access and routinely requires repairs due to poor drainage. The road is serviced by Longview and Kelso School District buses multiple times per school day and the poor conditions create an unsafe climate with little or no room for pedestrians, disabled vehicles, or passing room for emergency vehicles.
