U.S. House Approves Funding for Water Treatment Facilities in Carson and Washougal

Yearly Appropriations spending plan includes Southwest Washington community funding priorities secured by Herrera Beutler

The U.S. House of Representatives this week approved a yearly spending plan which included two Southwest Washington community funding priorities Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler secured through her position on the House Appropriations Committee, including funding for the Carson Water Treatment Plant Rebuild and the Washougal Wastewater Treatment Plant Anoxic Selector Project.

“Several important priorities for Southwest Washington advanced in Congress this week, including critical community-supported funding to establish water and wastewater treatment facilities in Carson and Washougal. I’ve put my support behind these projects to provide clean, drinkable water and lower costs for residents who live there,” Herrera Beutler said. “While the overall spending of this yearly federal spending bill was too high for me to support the package in its current form, I’ll continue working with congressional negotiators to ensure these critical priorities remain in the final bill so Carson and Washougal residents benefit from these clean water treatment projects.”

Project funding details:

Carson Water Treatment Plant Rebuild - $3,000,000

  • This federal funding would construct a new one-million-gallon per day water treatment plant. This project would allow the plant to provide reliable drinking water year-round for current and future needs and reduce staffing times required to safely operate.
  • A reliable and clean source of drinking water in the Carson area is critical for public health and is key for residential, commercial, and industrial growth. This effort will provide multiple benefits for the community and region, including water quality of fish-bearing streams, economic competitiveness of the community’s businesses, and increased affordability for folks throughout the community.

Washougal Wastewater Treatment Plant Anoxic Selector Project - $1,000,000

  • This federal funding will support the installation of a new, required Anoxic Selector at the Washougal Wastewater Treatment Plant, which will enhance water quality, create a more sustainable water supply, double the capacity of the plant, and provide for the future growth and economic development of the Port of Camas-Washougal and the City of Washougal.
