Jaime Herrera Beutler Applauds CARES Act Funding to Protect Affordable Housing in Southwest Washington
More than $694,000 in COVID-19 relief funding will protect vulnerable residents, safeguard public housing
Vancouver, August 5, 2020
Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler today applauded an announcement by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that more than $694,000 will be distributed to Southwest Washington to help protect public housing and vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, Herrera Beutler helped secure this critical funding in the CARES Act that will be distributed to Southwest Washington Public Housing Authorities (PHA) to help them protect vulnerable residents during COVID-19.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has left those folks who rely on public housing especially vulnerable, so we should be providing assistance to help keep them healthy and secure during this difficult time,” Herrera Beutler said. “I worked in Congress to ensure federal dollars would be targeted to meet Southwest Washington’s most critical needs during this pandemic, and I’m pleased to see public housing get additional resources to protect our community.”
This funding will support the Housing Choice Voucher program, which will help purchase cleaning supplies, transport of families for testing or to access health services in relation to the coronavirus, and additional costs for supportive services related to COVID-19.
CARES Act Housing Choice Voucher Funds:
Longview Housing Authority: $228,076
Vancouver Housing Authority: $418,124
Kelso Housing Authority: $48,650
In addition to this funding, Herrera Beutler helped secure federal dollars for Southwest Washington Housing Authorities earlier this year.
