Today, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03) supported, and the U.S. House passed, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. This bipartisan legislation will provide relief to communities in Southwest Washington and throughout the country that have been impacted by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

“Folks in Southwest Washington have been on the front lines of this outbreak; with confirmed cases of the virus and the economic impact already weighing on our communities, this bill will provide much needed relief through family and sick leave, tax credits to support small businesses, and improved testing access,” Herrera Beutler said. “I supported this emergency relief solution because we must provide assurance to families, seniors and others in Southwest Washington that they will have the resources and tools at their disposal to get through this difficult situation.”

H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act will:

  • Reduce cost barriers for individuals seeking tests for the novel coronavirus.
  • Provide leave for workers who are ill, quarantined, or caring for others who have been affected by the virus.
  • Increase access to telehealth services for seniors with chronic conditions to reduce regular trips to doctor’s offices.
  • Help ensure food security for unemployed, low income individuals and children who qualify for school lunch programs.

The legislation is expected to pass the U.S. Senate and be signed into law.
