This week, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03) along with Vice President Mike Pence, Governor Jay Inslee, members of the Washington state congressional delegation, and federal, state and local officials visited the Pierce County Readiness Center and the Washington State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray, Washington.

Herrera Beutler and the vice president met with the Emergency Operations Center team, where they toured and assessed the center’s facilities and operations. The center continues to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has seen over 70 confirmed cases and 12 deaths so far in Washington state.

“With the outbreak of the novel coronavirus we have seen here in Washington state, it’s critical we work swiftly to contain the spread of the virus and assist those who have been affected,” Herrera Beutler said. “I want to thank Vice President Mike Pence for his effort in leading the U.S. response to the novel coronavirus, and for traveling to Washington state to witness how our dedicated response teams are handling the outbreak. I also want to thank the Pierce County Readiness Center and the Washington State Emergency Operations Center for allowing us to see what they are doing to contain and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. We have to remain vigilant. I’ll keep working with the Administration, my colleagues in Congress and those fighting the battle on the front lines to end the spread of this virus.”

Herrera Beutler’s recent actions on the novel coronavirus:

In a letter to the vice president earlier this week, Herrera Beutler urged the Administration to work with Congress, drug makers and other stakeholders to ensure there is a limited impact on the supply of personal protection equipment, medical devices and prescription drugs during the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

This week, the House and Senate approved an emergency supplemental package that the president signed into law today. Herrera Beutler helped secure this funding from her position on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee to fight the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Washington state and across the country. The appropriations package will ensure local, state, and federal governments have the resources they need to continue to combat the spread of the virus.
