FINALLY… Federal Small Business Lending Program Starts LendingWeeks after Jaime’s questioning of Secretary Geithner, Treasury’s jobs program to begin
Almost one year after it was signed in to law, the Small Business Lending Fund is finally starting to disburse credit to community banks.
Almost one year after it was signed in to law, the Small Business Lending Fund is finally starting to disburse credit to community banks. The U.S. Treasury announced today that it will loan $123 million of the $30 billion fund, following Jaime Herrera Beutler’s June 22 exchange with Treasury Secretary Geithner over the program’s delays. “Considering the double-digit employment plaguing Southwest Washington, this program that was promised to help job-creating small businesses is past due,” said Herrera Beutler. “When I spoke with Secretary Geithner last month, my goal was to keep the Treasury’s ‘feet to the fire’ to get this program moving. I voiced the frustration I felt and my colleagues from both parties felt, and I’m heartened that he responded to my pressure. I hope this program is successful in its goal of helping private sector job creators expand, grow and hire.” VIDEO REWIND: Click here to watch Jaime question Secretary Geithner on June 22, 2011.
